T Nonimmigrant Status
What is it?
- A temporary immigration benefit that helps certain victims of trafficking to remain in the United States
- Can be eligible for employment authorization and certain federal and state benefits and services.
- May also be able to advance their status and receive Green Card after 3 years
Who is eligible?
- Are or were a victim of a severe form of trafficking persons (sex or labor)
- Complied with any reasonable request from a law enforcement agency for assistance in the detection, investigation, or prosecution of human trafficking (unless you were under the age of 18 at the time)
- Show that you would suffer extreme hardship if you were removed from the United States; and are admissible to the United States.
- Some family members of recipients of a T-Visa
Why?
- To help victims of a severe form of trafficking in persons and help law enforcement, which can grant a Green Card in the future
